Almost everyone makes at least one mistake when relocating – it is quite easy to do it actually. If you don’t rely on a professional mover to help you go through this process – the chances are you will make a mistake or two for sure. It is simple to lose time on unimportant tasks or to postpone doing more important ones. And as the time passes, the pressure will start kicking in. Levels of stress will rise, and you will find yourself in a situation you won’t know how to beat. And the answer to this question is easy – let mover take care of everything for you. There is no need for you to do everything all by yourself. And, if you think you are going to save a large amount of money by doing so – you are wrong. Moving mistakes can cost you even more than hiring movers. Keep on reading, and learn how to avoid making them!

Spending too much – no more

The more you have to move – the more you will end up paying. This is a mistake almost everyone makes when moving, but the truth to be told, it is quite easy to prevent it. How? Before you start packing – purge your living space or office. There are many ways to do it. You can sell, donate or throw away items that you don’t use or need anymore. And, if impact you have on our planet matters to you-you can even recycle some of this stuff and give it a second chance.

  • You have more than one option here – you can sell some of your items online or at a yard sale for example. And making some money right before moving can come in handy, so give it a chance!
  • Giving to ones in need won’t only take some load off your plate, but it will also make you feel good. So, why not do something useful?
  • Give away. Ask your friends if they would like to take something? You will be surprised at their answers. One man’s trash is someone else’s treasure!
  • Throw away. Or recycle. It is really your choice.

Postponing

You don’t have time. At least, not as much as you think you have. Moving requires not only meticulously planning and calculating – it also requires sticking to your strategy. So, make a timetable and stick to it at all costs. Postponing won’t get you anywhere. If you feel tired or overwhelmed – take a break, breathe and then continue. The sooner you finish your tasks, the sooner you will be able to relax. And believe us, the sooner you finish this project – the sooner you will feel the relief. So, give it your best to avoid making this common moving mistake!

One of the most dangerous moving mistakes – trusting the wrong people

You should do everything in your power to find a reliable mover. Ask your friends, family members and co-workers for references. And if you get them – stop your search. There is no better mover than the one that has already been checked out. And if you can’t find such a mover – it is time to start your search all over again. Open your Internet browser and type in these magical words. Look for properly licensed and fully insured moving companies. Avoid making moving mistakes by hiring reputable mover with a lot of experience.

The more complex your relocation is – the more cautious you should be. If you are moving internationally – always do your due diligence research for the right company, especially when performing a complex move. Look for moving companies with good reviews and especially the genuine ones. Too many good reviews looks too fake and should be a red flag. No moving companies only have good reviews. Search around and ask for referrals prior to selecting your move.

Never overlook the safety of your belongings

The safety of your belongings should come first – no matter what. One of many mistakes people make when moving is overlooking this aspect. But the chances are – if you don’t properly pack your valuables – not even the best mover can guarantee they will get to your new address intact. Make an inventory and start from there. Once you know how much you are planning on moving, it will be much easier to gather moving supplies. Think twice before exiting the store. You shouldn’t buy too much, but getting the exact amount is quite hard. That’s when the packing specialist can come in. And if you choose to do it all by yourself – be careful. Gathering too much packing materials can cost you more than you think.

Professional packing materials are the only things that can guarantee your belongings safety during the transportation. And, make no mistake – improvised packing materials aren’t insurance enough.

Packing in a hurry is even worse than not packing at all

Packing can last long, but it needs to be done properly. If not – you will make more hassle than you imagine. To prevent this moving mistake from ever happening – take your time and pack everything the right way. Start sorting, labeling and marking the content of every box. Believe us – it will pay off in the long run. Especially when you start unpacking. If this task seems too hard – make sure you find a professional packer who can help you with this task.

Notify people of your move

Thinking about moving mistakes can make you forget your loved ones. Make sure you say your goodbyes before your relocation takes place. It can be quite hard sometimes but remember  – the people you love are just a call away.

Also, remember to notify service providers of your move. Cancel services and memberships if you want to save some money and time.
